If you’ve ever thought, “I’m not fit enough”, “I’m too old”, or “I wouldn’t know where to start”, then you are exactly why Run Walk For Life exists!
This is not a place for elite athletes or intimidating fitness culture. It is a place for real people. People with busy lives, changing bodies, health concerns, or simply a quiet desire to feel better. It is a place where you can arrive exactly as you are and take your first step without pressure, comparison, or expectation.
Because here, nobody is watching how fast you go. They are simply glad you came.
At Run Walk For Life, every journey is different, but they all begin the same way. With a single decision to show up.
Here are just some of the stories from Run/Walk For Life Fourways members:
Bev joined at 50, convinced she was not “a fitness person.” Hills felt impossible and 5km seemed out of reach. She did not start strong or confident. She simply started. Today, she has walked more than 15,000 kilometres, but what matters most to her is not the distance. It is the friendships, the support, and the sense of belonging she found along the way .
Lesley’s story is a reminder that it is never too late. Now in her seventies, she walks up to 40 kilometres a week and has been part of the community for nearly three decades. She began not out of passion, but because of chronic back pain. Walking became her way back to strength, and the community became her connection to others. As she puts it, it keeps her healthy, keeps her young, and keeps her connected .
For others, the journey begins with a health wake-up call. Kobus joined after being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. What started as “just a bit of exercise” became a turning point in his life. With steady support and guidance, he rebuilt his fitness, improved his health, and even inspired his young son to join him. What he discovered was not just physical improvement, but renewed energy, motivation, and a sense of progress that carried into every part of his life .
And then there is Zanele, who returned after major surgery, unsure of what her body could do. At first, it was frustrating to slow down. But over time, she found something far more powerful than speed. She found patience, resilience, and a community that celebrated every small victory. Today, every 5km she completes is a quiet triumph, and a reminder that progress is personal .
These stories are different, but they share something important.
Nobody started “ready.”
They started uncertain, unfit, or unsure. And they were met with kindness, encouragement, and the freedom to go at their own pace.
That is what makes Run Walk For Life different.
You will not find pressure here. You will not find comparison. You will not find expectations about what you should look like or how far you should go.
What you will find is a welcoming group of people who understand what it means to begin. Road leaders who guide you gently. Members who remember your name. Conversations that turn into friendships. And a structure that allows you to build your fitness gradually, safely, and sustainably.
Some people come to lose weight. Some come to manage their health. Some come because they feel lonely and want connection. Many arrive with a mix of all three.
And they stay because they feel better. Not just physically, but emotionally too.
There is something powerful about being outdoors, moving your body, and sharing that experience with others who are walking their own path. It creates a sense of accountability, but also a sense of care. You are not doing this alone.
Whether you can walk half a kilometre or five, whether you have exercised before or not, there is a place for you here.
You do not need to get fit before you join. You join to get fit!
And somewhere along the way, almost without noticing, you will also gain confidence, friendships, and a sense of belonging that goes far beyond fitness.
So if you have been waiting for the “right time” or the “right level of fitness”, consider this your invitation.
Come as you are.
Take the first step.
We will walk this walk with you.
