The Run/Walk For Life programme is a three-times-a-week exercise plan. This allows your muscles enough time to recover and reduces risk of injury. All memberships are for 6 or 12 months, and can be paid in a number of ways: cash, credit card (straight or monthly budget facility), debit order, cheque, or you may choose our post-dated cheque system. Once you have joined, your fitness levels will be assessed, and you will be placed in a group according to your ability.
The Run/Walk For Life programme is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels and for pregnant women. For those who are already fit, Run/Walk For Life can offer advanced fitness training, too – over 200 of our members ran the Comrades last year. Sessions take place three times a week and, during the first month (and dependant on your fitness level), last for up to 30 minutes.
Advancement through the levels is gradual and according to a scientific formula, to ensure progress that is not too rapid, but, similarly, not too slow. Most beginners who exercise on their own often find it difficult to judge their pace and may feel breathless or exhausted as a result.
On our programme, you will be taught to count your pulse rate and monitor your breathing, so these problems will not be experienced.
The scientific basis of the programme ensures that you stay comfortable, while receiving the optimum benefit from your exercise.
The Run/Walk For Life programme will start you off on a level of running or walking which is relevant to your level of fitness.
You will exercise with people of similar ability to yourself. On joining, you will be put into a group of members whose fitness and ability matches yours.
No more trying to keep up with fitter people or having to wait for less fit people than yourself.
All members are supervised and monitored by a qualified trainer or manager. You have your own personal trainer.
The intensity and duration of your exercise will be increased along scientific guidelines, developed over the past 25 years.
All groups exercise along pre-marked routes, under the supervision of road leaders – member security is a cornerstone of the programme.
