What makes Run/Walk For Life and eatForLife’s annual FitSlim Challenge different from the many similar weight-loss initiatives that are being undertaken at any given time is its focus on changing the lifestyle of the people who decide to take up the challenge of improving their health.
With a focus on losing weight and on fitness – this combination is thanks to a tailored eating plan from eatForLife and Run/Walk For Life’s weekly fitness sessions – the FitSlim Challenge is geared towards making a real change in the lives of participants.
This year’s FitSlim Challenge, which took place from 2 September to 26 October, seems to have kick-started this metamorphosis of body and mind for many of the people who took part in it – and it shows: FitSlim 2019 had more than double the amount of participants that it had last year, with a combined total weight loss of 2,839 kilograms.
This is, ultimately, a challenge that promises great rewards to the winners, and in this regard we are grateful to the many sponsors that made this year’s FitSlim Challenge possible.
Without further ado, we’d like to introduce you to this year’s national runner-up, Natalie York of the Richards Bay RWFL branch. Natalie wins R2,000 cash, an ASICS voucher worth R1,000, a FUTURELIFE hamper, two months RWFL and EFL membership, Maui Jim sunglasses, Compressport calf sleeves and a FloCup.
Natalie was kind enough to share her thoughts on the FitSlim Challenge 2019.
“Last year, I won the FitSlim Challenge. I was so proud and could not believe that joining RWFL would give me such an amazing group of people and a manager that pushed me further than I thought I could go. I never thought that walking and having an easy-to-follow diet could help me achieve what I did.
“I gave it my all, and was surprised and excited that my hard work paid off, and that following an easy diet (especially tailored for me) could help me accomplish so much.
“However, I thought that I could go off the eating plan and stop walking after the challenge, and I would stay at the the same weight and not put on any weight. Boy, was I wrong – I was even embarrassed to join the FitSlim Challenge this year.
“I cannot believe that all the hard work I put in just vanished! I put on all the weight I lost, and then some.
“Even though I loved my eating plan and really enjoyed my walks, I just let it all go – it was pure laziness.
“However, I joined the FitSlim Challenge again, and saw how easy it was to eat right and how good I felt after a walk. Being with all the other people at RWFL made it fun.
“I’m not going to work so hard again just to let myself go. Best thing I ever did was to join the FitSlim Challenge and be a part of our RWFL group.
“I want to thank Derick, our RWFL manager. He never judged me, just encouraged me to do my best, and praised me at all weigh-ins. That just made me want to push more.
“A big thank you to all the sponsors for the lovely prizes!”
